Step into the world of film and get to grips with the theoretical concepts behind some of your favourite movies with an A Level in Film Studies at City of Portsmouth College.
Explore films at a deeper level – analyse and interpret meanings communicated by films, explore the social, cultural, historical and psychological aspects of film, and learn about directors, narratives, audiences and the wider film industry.
Plus, you'll explore your creativity and technical skills by making your own film, inspired by your study of famous directors. We work closely with film specialist universities which can support you on your way to a career in the film industry.
This course combines well with other A Level and Level 3 vocational courses, such as media studies, film making and animation, journalism, digital media, English language and literature or English literature, graphics and art and design.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4.00pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
The course is a blend of exams and assessments - broken down into 70% written examination and 30% non-exam assessment.
Previous students from this course have progressed to university to study degrees like film studies, digital filmmaking, journalism, media studies, business studies, drama, history and law.
We work hard to keep our course information up to date. Occasionally we may make small changes to course content, start dates, locations or fees to keep our courses current and relevant. If anything important changes after you apply, we’ll always let you know.
