A Prince's Trust team stood in front on HMS Warrior in Old Portsmouth.

Aimed at 16-25 year olds who are unemployed and lacking in qualifications or confidence, it’s a great opportunity to develop your existing skills and gain new ones. Even better, it’s free of charge and doesn’t affect any benefits. City of Portsmouth College is also the first provider in the country to offer one extra-special team programme, especially designed for young people with a learning difficulty or disability:

  • week 1 – team introduction
  • week 2 – action-packed residential week
  • weeks 3/4/5 – planning and completing a local community project
  • week 6 – work placement preparation
  • week 7/8 – work placement
  • week 9 – next steps, including CV workshops, interview techniques and guest speakers
  • week 10/11 – team challenge
  • week 12 – presentation.

You will complete a two-week work placement, take on rewarding projects in the community and enjoy an adventurous five-day team building residential trip. Activities during the residential week could include archery, canoeing and high ropes.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

Seven out of 10 young people helped by the Prince’s Trust move on to education, training or employment.
