Pre 16s
We understand that the traditional school environment may not suit everyone.
This is why we are committed to providing an alternative pathway that encourages continued education in a supportive setting.
Our differentiated programmes are carefully designed to help young people develop the confidence, practical skills, and social abilities needed for personal growth and future success.
Through hands-on learning experiences, small class sizes, and tailored support, we create an environment where students feel valued and motivated to achieve their potential.
At City of Portsmouth College, we believe in recognising potential and empowering young people to take control of their next steps, and their future.

What's on offer?
Programme overview
We have carefully curated a part-time provision to engage young people in education through a stimulating and supportive learning environment. Our programme offers a diverse selection of vocational and core courses, catering to a variety of interests and equipping students with the skills they need to grow and succeed.
We work in close partnership with parents/carers and schools to ensure students achieve the best possible outcomes. By maintaining open and ongoing communication, we create a supportive network that meets each student’s individual needs.
Our dedicated course tutors guide students as they transition from school to college life, providing insight into what to expect in a further education setting.
Through a blend of practical and theoretical experiences in their chosen vocational courses, students gain valuable hands-on learning, helping them make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways.

Our Pre 16 Team
Support & structure
SEND Team Leader
If a student has an EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) at school, any support requirements outlined in the plan will carry over to College.
We will ensure that teachers, learning assistants, and support staff are fully aware of these needs, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where the student can thrive.
The SEND Team Leader will oversee their needs and progress, actively participating in annual reviews to ensure continued support and development.
Pre 16 Coordinator
Our Pre 16 Coordinator ensures a smooth transition into the programme and is your first point of contact for support.
They work closely with schools and parents/carers to track progress, attendance, and address any concerns, alongside sharing successes and accomplishments. Pastoral support and safeguarding are also provided to ensure a safe environment for students.
Wellbeing/Pastoral Support
Our Wellbeing/Pastoral Support Team will assist our Pre-16 provision by offering guidance and practical support, ensuring young people feel supported throughout their journey.
The team helps with personal challenges and resilience-building, fostering a positive environment where students can thrive.
Learning Assistants
Learning Assistants are present in all lessons during student’s time at College. They will accompany students around campus to ensure safety and circulate in the classroom to provide support to students during lessons.
If a student has an EHCP or requires additional learning support in the classroom, we will ensure that support is provided.
