Suitable for young adults who want to learn the skills necessary to gain employment but still need a high level of support to acquire the confidence to work unaided.
Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectively and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life.
It will develop vocational awareness and independence skills. You will have the chance to experience real life situations to develop confidence and skills which are transferrable throughout your life.
No formal entry requirements are required, though realistic learning targets would need to be agreed.
This course is for individuals aged 16-24 and is delivered over two and a half days per week (36 weeks per year).
You will learn the skills you need to live with increased independence, such as setting targets to help you achieve, budgeting your money, healthy eating, personal safety, using public transport and looking after yourself. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you identify suitable work opportunities for the future, like timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, team working and problem solving. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (pictorial, photographic and video), which will be presented via a portfolio of evidence. You will have regular tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress.
You could move on to SAIL Entry 3 or Progress to Employment.
