For young adults who want to develop their work skills.
Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectively and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employable skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life.
All courses have access to a wide range of enrichment activities, which include hair and beauty, art, drama, sport and cookery. These activities help to develop team, interpersonal and creative skills. There are numerous other activities to get involved in. Our students host their own art exhibitions, take part in theatre performances with students from other areas of the College and enjoy external enrichment trips that develop independence and confidence.
No formal entry requirements are required, though realistic learning targets would need to be agreed.
This course is for individuals aged 16-24 and delivered over three and a half days per week.
You will learn the skills you need to live with increased independence, such as shopping and day-to-day household management, budgeting your money, healthy eating, personal safety, using public transport and looking after yourself. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you identify suitable work opportunities for the future; like timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, team working and problem solving. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (pictorial, photographic and video) to gain portfolio evidence for assessment at the end of the academic year. You will have regular tutorials and receive feedback to discuss your progress.
You could progress to work placement either paid or unpaid.
