This T Level contains two components, the core content and occupational specialism, either Electrotechnical Engineering or Plumbing and Heating Engineering.
The core content is designed to offer sufficient breadth of knowledge and skills for you to apply in a variety of contexts related to the industry and those occupational specialisms linked to this T Level. The core content is the building blocks of knowledge and skills that will give you a broad understanding of the industry and job roles. At the same time, it will develop the core skills you will need to apply when working within the industry.
Occupational specialisms develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to achieve threshold competence in an occupation. Ultimately this course is designed for students who want to go on to careers such as electrician, gas fitter, plumbing and heating engineer or specialist technical design.
Plumbing and Heating Engineering:
The purpose of this specialism is for learners to know and undertake fundamental plumbing work. Topics include:
plumbing tools and equipment
pipework materials, installation methods and jointing processes
plumbing systems and their purpose
plumbing science.
As part of this T Level students will complete an industry work placement.
The industry placement part of this T Level course will last between 45-60 days in total (at least 315 hours). The exact length of the placement and when you’ll complete it depends on your chosen subject. Placements can be taken as a block or as individual days however it varies depending on your chosen industry.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, maths and science.
This course is full time for two years and you are required to complete a 45-day minimum industry placement.
In the first year of this qualification, the core topics are assessed through an external exam and an employer set project.
The second year which is your occupational specilalism, is assessed through synoptic assignment.
You could progress to a degree, an apprenticeship, or into employment.
