Discover the T Level in Education & Early Years at City of Portsmouth College, a pathway to careers in childcare with 750 hours of hands-on experience and expert support.
This course is ideal if you want to begin a career in education and childcare, as T Levels provide a high-quality, work-focused alternative to A Levels, offering new routes to employment or further learning. As part of your course you'll complete a mix of classroom learning and experience-building on placement, and you'll be assessed on both of these elements (see the learning and assessment section).
Units include:
- supporting education
- safeguarding, health, safety and wellbeing
- behaviour
- parents, families and carers
- child development
- equality and diversity
- special needs.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English.
To give you the best possible chance of successfully completing your qualification, 100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. Industry placements, tutorials and employability sessions all form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
This course combines both theory and practical sessions and you will be assessed in a variety of ways including:
- a two-hour exam at the end of year 1
- an Employer Set Project which will assess your knowledge, skills and behaviours in a work based scenario;
- throughout year 2, your vocational competencies will be assessed via observations and professional discussions in your placement
- occupational specialism assessments at the end of year 2 via written and practical exams.
You could progress to a degree, a higher apprenticeship, or into employment.
