This course is for you or you if you’re aged 16-19, have a general interest in sport and wish to progress into the field. The programme is also designed to develop students who wish to train in the sport industry but do not have the required maths and English levels to access other vocationally related programmes.
Units may include:
• the principles of coaching
• how to plan coaching activities
• conducting coaching
• how to evaluate coaching activities
• taking part in sport
• understanding sport and active leisure
• nutrition
• leading others
• employment in outdoor activities.
You will gain a vital understanding of the sport and active leisure sector, understanding what’s needed to gain employment in the outdoor and adventurous activity industry and leading your own sessions.
There are no formal entry requirements, although a keen interest in sports and leisure combined with a desire to improve English and maths is essential.
100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions all form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress to positive destinations. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video), which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence.
You will have weekly tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress. All of our programmes are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our Highbury Campus is equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes and to achieve the programme qualification.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education and enables progression into further vocational courses, traineeships or an apprenticeship. In the final term, you will have an opportunity to study towards a Level 2 course that will further enable your progression.
