This Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping is ideal for those who want to build a strong foundation in bookkeeping while benefiting from a flexible, mindful blended learning approach. It is particularly suited for individuals seeking a career in bookkeeping or finance who require a balance of online and in-person study, those returning to education who value personalised support and self-paced learning and professionals looking to enhance their skills or gain a recognised qualification to improve career prospects.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to bookkeeping, combining online learning with in-College workshops, and topics include:
bookkeeping transactions through learning the principles of financial recording, including double-entry bookkeeping
bookkeeping controls through understanding reconciliation processes, control accounts, and the correction of errors
Engage with real-world scenarios and industry-relevant examples to develop confidence and competence.
Professional behaviours are embedded throughout all AAT courses.
You do not need prior experience in bookkeeping, but you should:
have basic numeracy and literacy skills (usually demonstrated by GCSEs in maths and English at grade 3/D or above, or equivalent). Initial and diagnostic assessment may be indicated to ensure the course is right for you.
be self-motivated and comfortable with a blend of independent and structured learning.
Due to the professional nature of the qualification, there are strict standards and requirements for membership to the AAT, in particular surrounding criminal convictions.
This course offers a flexible blended learning model. This means there is a mix of both in class and online lessons that learners must engage with.
online learning through self-paced modules with access to videos, quizzes, and resources available 24/7
In-College sessions are fortnightly on Thursdays, 3 hours per week for practical workshops, group activities, and tutor support.
This mindful delivery model ensures you can study at your own pace while maintaining access to personalised support.
During your studies, online resources are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer. This enables you to choose how, when and where you want to study Mindful Education’s award-winning video lessons. Online sessions last for approximately 45 minutes and combine animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Supporting resources such as practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further. You should expect to spend a further 4-5 hours studying independently online each week.
In College, at our Highbury Campus, you will benefit from scheduled fortnightly classes with our highly trained teaching staff. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group. The programme uses a supportive and learner-centred approach to assessments. These include:
- short online quizzes to check understanding
- practical assignments completed at your own pace
- computer based exams and synoptic assessment, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification. These are externally set and assessed.
Throughout the course, tutors will provide feedback and support to help you succeed.
.
On completion, you will receive the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping, a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates your bookkeeping skills to employers and provides a strong foundation for further study.
Students completing this Level 2 AAT Certificate in Bookkeeping may wish to go on and complete the full Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting. If you do choose to continue your studies in this way, then your achievements in the bookkeeping qualification are carried over to the longer accounting qualification.
After successfully completing this qualification, you can progress to the AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping or Accounting, advancing your skills and career prospects.
You may also apply for roles such as bookkeeper, accounts assistant, or finance administrator and gain practical work experience to further develop your expertise in the finance sector.
