The rapid regrowth of the travel and tourism industry has prompted a surge in recruitment and a wealth of exciting employment opportunities across the sector. Whether you want to set sail or take to the skies, this course provides you with the foundations for endless career opportunities at home or abroad.
This introduction to Travel and Tourism covers a broad range of topics to enable learners to gain an insight into the component industries and career pathways available in this dynamic sector.
Units include:
• customer service in travel and tourism
• the UK Travel & Tourism Industry
• travel and tourism destinations
• promotion in travel and tourism
• hospitality in travel and tourism
• airports and airlines
• UK purpose-built visitor attractions
• understanding package holidays.
To support your development of practical and technical skills, you will complete a minimum of 30 hours work experience with some of the region’s leading organisations and events, including Premier Inn, Shaping Portsmouth conference and Victorious Festival. You will also enjoy industry trips and visits during the year locally and around the UK. Previous visits include Brighton, London Dungeons, Madame Tussauds, Warner Bros Studio tours, Weymouth, and airline simulations.
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language is preferrable.
This full-time programme runs for one year from September until June/July. You are expected to commit to 16 hours per week which is made up of a combination of face-to-face class sessions, online learning and independent study. As well as learning about the travel and tourism industry here in the UK and abroad, you will be able to access tutorial support, improve on your maths and English (where applicable) and undertake a 30-hour work experience placement in a travel and tourism related, customer facing role.
Primarily assessed by coursework. Assignments are a mixture of written assessments, role plays/industry simulation, short answer questions and presentations both in groups and individually. There are also two multiple-choice exam elements which are completed online.
You can progress on to a Level 3 NCFE Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism or other suitable Level 3 programmes. You can progress into a variety of entry level roles within the travel and tourism sector.
