This course is for students who would like to develop their skills within the creative and media industries to prepare them for work or further study. Students on this programme may wish to work in set design, illustration, sculpture, media, textiles or fine art.
Units include:
- materials, processes and skills
- contextual research
- drawing skills
- 2D and 3D problem-solving
- time-based creative problem-solving
- developing and producing a personal project.
You will complete a one-week work placement within the industry. You will also have the opportunity to work on many live projects and exhibit your work. At the end of your studies, you will be invited to exhibit your final design projects at the End-of-Year Showcase.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English. All places are subject to an interview with a portfolio of your creative work.
The course is full time for one year starting in September and ending in June/July. The exact start days and hours depend on your timetable, but you can expect to be in College three to four days a week plus approximately 10 hours a week independent study.
You will learn in a variety of ways, including formal lessons, practical workshops and group work. Some projects will involve you working with local employers/artists as well as your lecturers.
On completion of this course to a merit standard, you can progress to a Level 3 course, including a Level 3 UAL Diploma in Art and Design.

Highbury Campus art student Ella Devanport competed against 169 other entrants in the Solent Fine Art and Photography competition and scooped 1st prize plus £300 prize money, with her "roofscape" art piece.
