This qualification is for students who are currently working as a Teaching Assistant in school or who are in an established voluntary role as a teaching assistant in school. They should have a good working knowledge of the school system.
Units include:
The final three/four units are optional and will be chosen from an extensive list to suit your needs and experience.
You will be expected to have, or be working towards, a Level 2 qualification in English and maths.
It is also expected that you will have secured a placement in an appropriate educational establishment before the course begins. A letter of support from the school/college will be required to state that they are happy to mentor you throughout the qualification.
A requirement of this programme is that you are working or volunteering for a minimum of four hours a week in a school or college (classroom setting) and, ideally, you should have been working or volunteering in a classroom setting for a minimum of one term before the course begins, (or have other relevant experience).
You will be required to attend college for three hours a week for one academic year, on a Wednesday from 9.30am–12.30pm.
This qualification is portfolio based and there are no formal exams. However, students will be observed in their classroom setting.
Successful completion of this qualification could lead to progression within employment, including higher level teaching assistant status (HLTA).
