Do you want to understand the visual world around you? Graphic communication offers fantastic opportunities to develop creative skills working on exciting design projects, such as poster design, packaging, branding, book layout and publishing.
Units include:
You will develop technical skills in the use of computers and creative software. You will also learn the process of digital design, including digital storage, image resolution and print and file formats, to industry standard. You will broaden your knowledge of information design and gain an insight into why graphic design plays a vital communicative role in the world we live in.
Opportunities that will get you ready for the world of work have included entering various local competitions, responding to real life project briefs as well as following your own creative intentions, personalising projects that reflect you and your interests.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language and an art and design based subject preferred.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
All work is assessed and standardised internally, including the end of course practical examination project, before it is finally moderated by a senior examiner representing the examination board. In this way, rigorous, consistent and fair marking is assured for all students.
You can move on to a degree programme in graphic design or progress to a career in architecture, fashion photography, fashion design, set design for film, publishing, animation, app design, graphic design or advertising.
