This technical course runs one evening a week and gives trainees the essential skills needed to work in today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It will cover mechanical repairs and diagnostics and is taken on a part-time basis over one year, making it ideal for anyone who has experience of the motor trade but is unable to get a day release from work.
The course consists of nine units including diagnosis and maintenance of major automotive systems. You will carry out assessed workshop tasks and classroom sessions to learn the underpinning knowledge that will be assessed by written question papers, oral questioning, small assignments and online assessments.
Progress and assessment will be continually monitored.
The automotive department has excellent workshops, classrooms and dedicated diagnostic facilities.
You will need to have successfully completed the Level 1 Certificate or pass a question-and-answer interview with the lecturer.
You will attend one evening a week for 35 weeks from 5-9pm.
You will be allocated a tutor who will provide support and guidance and give regular feedback on the progress you are making. You will need to supply overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions.
Individuals develop their skills through a mixture of lessons, demonstrations, assignments and practical tasks. To successfully achieve this qualification, you must complete all units, including all assessments (practical and theory), to a successful level. Maximum attendance is required.
On successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma you could progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair in which you will learn aspects of system fault diagnosis.
