This qualification has been designed for those working as or seeking to become
trainee assistant practitioners and, ultimately, assistant practitioners in healthcare. This qualification will train you for a range of settings, such as nursing assistant roles, care navigation, planning, and assessment.
Units may include:
*Please note, this qualification involves just one day a week College study, with additional independent learning, working in the sector/ or placement and online activities.
You will need to have completed a relevant Level 3 qualification to join this course.
However, applications for this course are assessed on an individual basis, so if you don't have a relevant qualification, but have relevant experience, your application will be considered.
Attendance one day a week is required.
You will need to attend College one day a week, plus additional independent learning and online activities.
This qualification also requires at least 450 hours of work experience/placement in healthcare settings and a PLAD portfolio, including reflections on placement/workplace learning and experiences, to be completed throughout the qualification.
Once students have achieved the Level 5 higher national diploma, they can develop
their careers in healthcare by:
● entering employment
● continuing existing employment
● becoming a member of the appropriate professional body
● committing to continuing professional development
● going to university.
This course will give you the opportunity to work in many different areas of the health
and social care sector. Below are some examples of job roles the qualification could
lead to if the student is working in these areas, and the appropriate optional units
are chosen:
● occupational therapy assistant practitioner
● operating department assistant practitioner
● prehabilitation and rehabilitation assistant practitioner
● maternity care assistant practitioner
● community care assistant practitioner.
